Through practice we are able to reach perfection or at least the understanding and acceptance of minor flaws. The goal of yoga is not to gain flexibility, the goal is to perfect the practice of balance. In yoga, rarely are you in a position that you would normally find comfortable but through practice you learn to embrace the uncomfortable (the flaws) and are forced to stay calm or else everything will fall apart. Yoga also helps to strengthen all three dimensions of human life: mental, physical & spiritual. Through mental, you're taught that though a single situation might be uncomfortable, a calm mind can get through anything. Through physical, you're taught that pain is only temporary. Through spiritual you're taught that stress only makes things worse & peace of spirit is most important in life. Yoga, then, is understood by those who indulge in the practice to be much more than merely an exercise, but a way of life.
